Meet Ms. Ayala

Ms. Ayala is fixture at the 95 Street Upper School—usually the first person to greet students and faculty in the morning, and the last person to say good-bye to them as they rush out in the afternoon. She knows everyone’s name, and never hesitates to ask how their day is going or “what’s new?” But how much do we really know about the Trevor receptionist who makes things run so smoothly for all of us? The Dragon decided it was time to ask!

What is your favorite part about working at Trevor?

My favorite part about working at Trevor is the camaraderie between faculty, staff and students.

How long have you been at Trevor?

I’ve been at Trevor for 32 years this October. I started by working in Development and Admissions, but when the Day School came over, I took on the position of the school receptionist.

What’s a typical day like for you: when do you arrive, when do you leave, what are some of the most important tasks you tend to?

I arrive every day at 7 a.m. and my day involves tackling attendance, lost IDs, and metro cards….always busy.

What is the funniest thing that you have ever seen/experienced in your job?

Every day at Trevor is a fun experience, especially when you have Mr. Feigin at the helm!

How can students make your job easier?

Students would make my life so easy by simply coming in on time, having their IDs, and not losing their metro cards.

What are your fave things to do when you’re NOT at Trevor (hobbies, family, etc.)?

When not at Trevor, I visit my mom at her nursing home and spend time with my daughters and grandchildren.

Let’s play…this or that.

Coffee or tea? Coffee….tea only when sick.

First day of school or last day of school? The first day back is always fun, as students change over the summer.

Stairs or elevator? Elevator. I have bad knees.

Pizza Day or Pasta Day? Pizza day. I love the chicken and rice soup.
